diet culture has ruined our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, it passes the discomfort with our own bodies as natural, it makes our hatred common, we punish ourselves by eating or not eating, by guilt and resolutions, but no one seems to care, not even those who love us.

forgive yourself. whether you fail a test, eat too many cookies, say the wrong thing, fail a class, or spend a whole day in bed — learn to forgive yourself. the next day will be better. the next day will be a day closer to your next success. you can do it.
i just want people to know that engaging in disordered eating patterns is harmful and difficult regardless of whether it never morphs into a clinically diagnosable eating disorder, and if you are dealing with any of this you have my utmost sympathy and care. i am so tired of diet culture treating these behaviors as though they’re completely fine as long as they’re not “bad enough.”
